Huion Kanvas Pro vs IPad 11 Inch

iPad 11 inch

I purchased a second hand iPad Pro some time back and went on the illustration journey. Purchased Procreate as I was following some YouTube artists and felt that it was the right software for what I wanted to do, then I came across Clip Studio paint, both worked very well on the iPad and managed to get rather far as with the Apple Pencil 2, the feedback loop is really good. Upgrading to the matte screen protector that gives the paper like feel gave an enjoyable experience but something still felt missing.

Huion Kanvas Pro 16 inch

Having some time under my belt with the iPad, I decided to purchase a second hand Kanvas Pro, and it first it felt odd as I had gotten used to the iPad and the workflow on the iPad, but with some dedicated time on the Kanvas, I started to notice and interesting aspect of the Kanvas that I could not get from the iPad, and it actually had nothing to do with the iPad but with the Apple Pencil in the way that it is manufactured which the Kanvas solved. The Kanvas has a felt tip and the way that it is constructed allows give when pushing it, this gives the Kanvas a comfortable feel on the hand when doing sweeping strokes during the illustration process, both in the sketching and in the inking process. This subtile but evident change when sitting for hours makes such a difference in my opinion that it was work the cost of getting it.

Review

If you can get a drawing display and your workflow is fixed (being in one place) then investing in a device can yield hours of enjoyment. If you have a un-dedicated space or you want to move around the iPad will work.
